Job Summary

The Phlebotomist I is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a fast-paced medical environment. This role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect patient specimens using various techniques, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, and throat swab collections.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and family members, providing clear instructions and demonstrating empathy.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely specimen collection.
  • Participate in training and mentoring new staff members to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development of skills such as patient registration, code response teams, and specimen processing.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers.
  • Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs.
  • Flexibility to work in other facilities, as needed.
  • Adherence to all personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of phlebotomy experience or phlebotomy training as approved by Manager/Supervisor.
  • High School diploma or equivalent in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • Certificate of completion from phlebotomy school or program.
Physical Requirements
  • Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
