POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Support Coach is tasked with a range of instructional and support responsibilities aimed at assisting school-based instructional aides in their efforts to enhance the educational experience of students with special needs (medical and/or disability) within inclusive classroom environments, one-on-one settings, and self-contained classrooms. This role operates under the daily supervision of the Director of Special Education, with guidance from special education instructional specialists to ensure effective collaboration with school teams. The Special Education Support Coach is expected to be well-versed in school and district policies and procedures relevant to their duties, to follow the directives of teachers, and to adhere to individual student education plans.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of an associate degree or two years of post-secondary education in relevant fields.
- A minimum of five years of experience demonstrating effective interaction with children in educational settings.
- Three to five years of experience as a classroom instructional aide in special education.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, demonstrating a commitment to fostering engagement within diverse populations.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Proven success in delivering instructional and behavioral intervention strategies in areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Able to function in an environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
- Maintain composure and focus when engaging with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may present challenges.
- Capable of following both written and verbal instructions and taking initiative to seek clarification when necessary.
- Knowledgeable about classroom management and student discipline practices.
- Able to organize tasks and prioritize work to achieve timely and effective outcomes.
- Ensures confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with the Office of Special Education and school sites to design and implement programs for students.
- Assists school-based instructional aides with classroom assessments, academic support, student interactions, promoting safe behaviors, and fostering social development among students.
- Supports instructional aides in assisting students with daily tasks such as eating, dressing, and toileting, including diapering.
- Executing lesson plans.
- Preparing instructional materials.
- Implementing Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity and collecting data to support Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)/BIP processes.
- Working directly with students in small group settings.
- Providing tailored instructional support and assistance.
- Supervising students in various settings, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Communicating with students, parents, community members, and staff in a manner that respects confidentiality and adheres to school/district policies.
- Offering instructional support and tutoring to students in inclusive, pullout, and one-on-one formats.
- Documenting student progress to assist teachers in evaluating educational plans.
- Facilitating special education programs and training sessions for instructional aides.
- Clarifying school policies and procedures.
- Participating in relevant school meetings, in-service training, conferences, and workshops.
- Engaging in IEP, SST, and parent/teacher conferences as required.
- Collaborating with teachers to identify and obtain referrals and consents for students.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment and physical demands of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this role, the employee must possess ordinary mobility skills to visit various locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and handle (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights ranging from 10-50 pounds.
Requires good hand-eye coordination, dexterity in arms, hands, and fingers, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity for keyboard use.
The employee frequently needs to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and listen.
