Under the guidance of the healthcare provider and/or practice manager, this role involves assisting in patient care activities and providing administrative oversight within the practice. Responsibilities include supporting the provider during patient examinations and treatments, performing various delegated tasks, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, and documenting information in patient records. Additionally, this position prepares treatment areas for patient examinations and will be cross-trained to improve efficiency and continuity in patient care delivery.
- Patient care responsibilities encompass: preparing patients and examination rooms for provider consultations, gathering medical histories and vital signs, scheduling appointments (e.g., lab tests, imaging), explaining procedures, assisting providers during special procedures (including minor surgeries), removing sutures, cleaning wounds, applying dressings, notifying patients of lab results, administering vaccinations, and monitoring patients before, during, and after treatment.
- Authorize and dispense medications as directed by the provider.
- Ensure seamless patient scheduling, collaborating with the practice team to maintain smooth patient flow.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations for all patients and their families.
- Engage in regulatory compliance and quality management initiatives while upholding fiscal responsibility.
- Act as a resource for staff regarding patient care and clinical policy matters, serving as a liaison between patients, the practice, the hospital, and community resources.
- Manage schedules, attendance, provide daily coaching and support, collaborate with the practice manager, and assist with performance discussions.
Contribute to performance evaluations.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited LPN program (or equivalent) with a current Ohio license.
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a medical or physician office environment.
- Current Ohio LPN license.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a physician practice and familiarity with electronic medical records is preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and HIPAA regulations is preferred.
