Nursing Assistant Job Description

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team in the Gen Medicine Department. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our Registered Nurses in delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Registered Nurses in the delivery of patient care, including vital signs, ADLs, and other clinical tasks.
  • Transport patients and items as needed, ensuring a safe and efficient environment.
  • Utilize technology, including EPIC, to document patient information and communicate with the healthcare team.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and well-equipped environment, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Demonstrate a professional work style, communicating effectively with internal and external customers.
Requirements:
  • Current enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate or Masters entry-level school of nursing, with passing grades in all courses upon hire and on an annual basis.
  • Completed a fundamental nursing course, including basic nursing skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
  • Ability to solve simple problems and demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills.
Physical Demands:
  • The ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
  • Lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300lbs.
  • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
