Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, while providing exceptional patient care and service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and evaluate laboratory tests, selecting and performing additional procedures as needed.
  • Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness, following prescribed policy in reporting and notification of test results.
  • Perform and document calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment.
  • Perform and review quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol.
  • Ensure specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, collecting specimens from patients as needed.
  • Provide general direction, training, and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
  • Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes, ensuring compliance with accrediting agency standards and supporting CAP Regulatory requirements.
  • Perform internal and external proficiency testing, as well as specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
  • Provide direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments, including the ED, ICU, and OR during high-acuity patient events.
Requirements:
  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), all of which must be obtained within 1 year.
  • Bachelor's or associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or a related field.
Working Conditions:
  • Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for the majority of the workday.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and/or infectious agents.
  • Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
  • Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye and face protection as needed.
