Position OverviewROLE SUMMARY:

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer plays a pivotal role in aligning the organization's IT strategies with its overarching goals. This position involves conducting thorough research, analyzing data, and presenting findings to aid in the formulation and execution of policies, procedures, and programs. The engineer will also contribute insights regarding the IT budget, particularly in relation to vendor management, systems, and project expenditures. Typically, this role encompasses projects and initiatives that span a duration of 12 months to 2 years.

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, management, troubleshooting, and oversight of daily operations within our hybrid cloud and infrastructure ecosystem. This includes servers, storage solutions, backup systems, enterprise software, and virtualized environments across both cloud and on-premises locations.

In addition, this role involves addressing a variety of intricate system challenges to ensure the security, availability, and integrity of our systems and data, adhering to industry best practices.

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will also lead various assigned projects, implement strategic initiatives, assist in the design and planning of cloud infrastructure projects, and provide Tier 3 - 4 support to fellow IT team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Engage in IT change approval board (CAB) and change management processes, as well as incident management and post-incident review processes. Review proposed changes from other IT engineers prior to CAB submission. Present and advocate for changes to CAB as necessary.
  2. Effectively manage the Systems Team Service Desk ticket queue to ensure compliance with issue resolution SLAs, delegating support tickets and requests as needed.
  3. Design, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot both cloud and on-premises infrastructure environments, alongside other IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions within the IT department's scope.
  4. Implement and support virtualization technologies to fulfill organizational needs, ensuring high availability, recoverability, and optimal performance.
  5. Oversee and maintain SQL Server instances, focusing on database performance tuning, backups, and disaster recovery planning. Manage database jobs, schedules, and automation scripts to uphold database health.
  6. Design, install, and maintain a Public Key Infrastructure environment.
  7. Establish and manage Secure FTP infrastructure to facilitate various business processes.
  8. Collaborate with other IT teams to guarantee the availability, reliability, security, and scalability of Windows platform infrastructure.
  9. Continuously monitor and enhance the performance, cost, availability, and security of cloud and on-premises infrastructure using diverse tools and metrics. Provide actionable recommendations for improvements based on monitoring data.
  10. Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies for cloud data and on-premises systems, ensuring data security and accessibility during failures, outages, or security incidents.
  11. Create and maintain automation scripts for repetitive infrastructure tasks, such as user account provisioning, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  12. Work in partnership with third-party vendors/service partners to ensure optimal operational status of IT infrastructure.
  13. Lead and mentor team members to foster their professional development.
  14. Participate in project and change management as a team member or subject matter expert, contributing ideas and developing solutions while balancing project demands with routine responsibilities. Engage effectively in changes impacting the role, maintaining open communication with supervisors.
  15. Demonstrate problem-solving capabilities with minimal supervision, conducting research, analysis, and evaluation of situations, and reporting findings. Tackle advanced issues effectively.
  16. Exhibit advanced technical skills and comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures within the field of specialization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of two years of college education or equivalent experience, coupled with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  2. Progressively responsible experience in Windows system administration, including but not limited to Windows Server, SQL Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, PKI, Group Policy, Exchange/Mail Relay, Microsoft 365, IIS, SCCM/MECM, DFS/File Services, Print Services, and PowerShell.
  3. Experience in Microsoft Azure Cloud services engineering and administration, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of the platform, particularly in Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Virtual Desktops, AAD/Entra ID, Azure SQL Server, storage solutions, monitoring, cloud cost management, and optimization, SSO/SAML/SCIM.
  4. Preferred industry certifications (e.g., MCSE, MS-102, AZ-104, AZ-140, AZ-305, etc.).
  5. Expert-level knowledge of IT infrastructure operations, encompassing Operating Systems (Windows/Linux), virtualization, storage, backup & recovery, and supporting networking platforms.
  6. Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate responsibilities among team members.
  7. Administration experience with enterprise platforms such as HPE, Veeam, and VMware.
  8. Strong PowerShell skills for scripting and automation tasks.
  9. Availability to provide after-hours support for issues related to corporate IT-managed resources.
  10. Capability to design and implement reliable and scalable solutions to meet functional requirements while establishing and managing continuity requirements for disaster recovery.
