Lifeguard/Instructor

This position provides water safety protection for swimmers at Indian River State College facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for interacting with users in a professional manner, addressing safety concerns, and performing emergency duties as needed.

• Possess any relevant combination of training, experience, and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Hold valid certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
• Knowledge of approved water rescue methods and first aid techniques.
• Skill in swimming and water rescue.
• Skill in organizing.
• Skill with basic computer applications used on the job.
• Ability to learn and enforce facility rules and regulations.
• Ability to maintain the safety of patrons and recognize and prevent dangerous situations.

This position involves medium work, requiring lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. During an emergency, the position may require retrieving a swimmer weighing more than 100 pounds in the water and then lifting or dragging that swimmer to safety.
