Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist at Queen's Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, you will perform assigned surgical duties and maintain sterile techniques for all surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the patient, operating room, equipment, and instruments for surgery, maintaining aseptic techniques in accordance with nursing practice and standards of care.
  • Assess, treat, or care for patients of all ages, demonstrating an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity process.
  • Operate various surgical equipment, instrumentation, and supplies, including computers, copiers, printers, fax machines, and multi-line telephones.

Physical Demands:

Essential:

standing, walking, stooping/bending, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual amount of 35 lbs up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling usual amount of 50 pounds of force, carrying usual amount of 35 lbs, reaching above/at/below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions, static/frequent gripping of an object for prolonged periods.


  • Exposure to chemicals, body fluids, and communicable diseases.

Working Conditions:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:
Eye protection, gown, mask, mask with face shield, non-sterile/sterile medical gloves, CAPR.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification and Licensure:

  • Completion of a certified Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Technician, or comparable training program.
  • Association of Surgical Technologists Certification preferred.
  • Current BLS/HCP CPR certification.

Experience:

Strong organizational and self-motivational skills.

Ability to deal with patients/visitors tactfully and courteously.

Ability to work and maintain composure under constantly changing situations with numerous interruptions.
