Position Overview

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing quality assurance systems and protocols for the production of ready-mix concrete. This role encompasses the evaluation of raw materials, supervision of the manufacturing process, development and refinement of mix designs, and ensuring adherence to industry regulations and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster a workplace culture that prioritizes safety while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory standards.
  • Design and assess all concrete mix formulations, confirming that materials meet established quality benchmarks through plant sampling.
  • Create and enforce quality control strategies and methodologies.
  • Conduct systematic inspections and evaluations of raw materials, in-process products, and finished concrete.
  • Interpret test outcomes and propose necessary adjustments to enhance the production process.
  • Perform and supervise various concrete testing procedures, including slump tests, air content tests, and strength assessments.
  • Provide support to clients in addressing quality-related issues and concerns.
  • Assist sales and customers in specifying and submitting accurate mix designs based on project requirements and practical experience.
  • Coordinate field coverage for on-site quality assurance activities as project demands dictate.
  • Ensure that the quality control department maintains accurate and accessible records of test results through appropriate software.
  • Manage compliance with ACI and NRMCA certification requirements, disseminating quality control information across relevant departments and monitoring key performance indicators for quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three to five years of experience in quality control, quality assurance, or operations.
  • At least two years in a managerial capacity, preferably as a Quality Control Manager.
  • A degree in engineering, industrial manufacturing, or construction management is preferred; significant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret technical standards and project specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to operational improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Detail-oriented and process-driven.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and quality control software.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role will oversee QA/QC personnel involved in ready-mix operations.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands for this position require the employee to frequently sit, talk, or hear, and occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach overhead. The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects weighing between 10 to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Employees in this role may encounter wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures. The noise level is typically moderate.

Additional Skills

Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.

Other Requirements

Willingness to travel and work away from home as necessary, including nights and weekends.
