We are looking for Lead Chemical Process Engineers to support olefins technology at our Baytown Olefins Plant.
As a Lead Chemical Process Engineer, you will be crucial in ensuring the effective operation of our facilities, spearheading initiatives to enhance unit performance in safety, production, and reliability within a collaborative team environment.
In this capacity, you will act as a senior technical resource, offering expertise to navigate complex processes across different business units.
Your responsibilities will include setting long-term visions for unit performance and troubleshooting while also managing daily operations.
- Act as the technical leader within the business team by mentoring junior engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Provide off-hours support for abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds.
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for product line enhancements.
- Organize and design plant testing and product trials.
- Collaborate with supervisors to establish clear objectives and align priorities for the technical team.
- Influence and drive solutions collaboratively without direct authority.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team alongside engineering, operations, and mechanical personnel, and engage with corporate technology support.
- Interface with third-party vendors to optimize costs and develop effective solutions.
- Serve as a process safety resource for the business team, leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments, while formulating closure plans for identified risks.
- Lead and support incident investigations as the technical lead.
- Assist in the development and implementation of capital projects aimed at enhancing margins or mitigating SHE risks.
- Provide on-site support during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets.
- Demonstrate the courage to foster healthy discussions between the business team and corporate technology support to achieve optimal outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Over 10 years of experience in fuels and chemicals manufacturing, particularly in Utilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in process design.
- Familiarity with advanced control strategies and optimization software.
- Knowledge of RBI practices, including corrosion damage mechanisms and mitigations.
- Experience with risk assessments and HAZOPs.
- Understanding of safety relief limits and their evaluations.
- Proficiency in modeling software such as PROII and ASPEN.
- Experience with kinetic modeling tools like SOL and KBC Profimatics.
