Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team at Nuvance Health. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will provide high-quality patient care, coordinate care planning with other disciplines, and respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Evaluates and prioritizes patient needs, determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, and coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

  • Communicates effectively with ED physicians regarding changes in patient status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.

  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.

  • Assesses and reassesses patient pain, utilizes appropriate management techniques, and educates patients and families regarding pain management.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias, and treats appropriately.

  • Accurately assigns triage categories and maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity, identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families, and functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients served.

  • Interacts professionally with patients and families, involves patients and families in the formation of the plan of care, and formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning.

  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and his/her clinical condition, follows the five medication rights, and reduces the potential for medication errors.

  • Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids and maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards, assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment, and cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives.

  • Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusts assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency, provides resource information to other staff, and demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.

  • Supervises temporary employees and employees who do not supervise, allocates and monitors work of others, leads one or more employees performing similar work, orients new employees to the Emergency Department, and assists the Emergency Department Nurse Manager in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement indicators to improve patient outcomes and the work environment.

  • Maintains regulatory agency requirements, hospital, and nursing policies, procedures, and standards, counts narcotics at the beginning and end of all shifts with another Registered Nurse, per policies and procedures, and utilizes initiative, strives to maintain a steady level of productivity, self-motivated, organizes and manages activities reflecting due consideration for the needs of the department and staff.

  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops, shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education, and works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, health plans, and staff.

  • Uses the principles of AIDET in every customer encounter and performs other duties as assigned.
