Job Title: Collection Manager/Assistant Professor/Librarian II

Marshall University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Collection Manager/Assistant Professor/Librarian II to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance in the development and management of our library collections.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in all aspects of the Libraries' collection development, including print and digital collections.
  • Investigate emerging trends in collection initiatives and incorporate them into the Libraries' collections framework.
  • Recommend materials for acquisition and/or order materials based on knowledge of, or research on, currently available materials.
  • Coordinate trials for new electronic resources and work closely with the Business Manager of University Libraries on funds spent for collection development.
  • Work on accreditation/program review and statistical reports for college/departmental accreditation or review visits.
  • Serve as a contact for vendors providing collection content and establish, maintain, and review relationships with vendors and publishers.
  • Coordinate with Cataloging the management of the Libraries' gift materials program and oversee the ongoing organization and weeding of the collection.
  • Participate in campus and university committees, taskforces, and professional activities as required and requested.
Requirements:
  • Master's in Library Science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
  • 2-5 years of full-time professional-level experience in collection development/acquisitions in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated ability with integrated library system and electronic resource management.
  • A strong commitment to public service and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently, and to promote teamwork among colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize information, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Good information literacy and information technology skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A second Master's degree.
  • Experience working with major library vendors and publishers, including the negotiation of license agreements.
  • Experience participating in the accreditation process for both academic programs and the institution.
  • Demonstrated ability working with Innovative Interfaces Sierra or similar integrated acquisitions, electronic resource management systems.
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience.
