Selection Process

All applications will be reviewed to ensure minimum qualifications have been met. Those meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete the written exam administered by Human Resources and a physical abilities test administered by Alabaster Fire Department. Candidates who successfully pass both the written exam and physical ability test will be scheduled for an interview before a panel of representatives from the Alabaster Fire Department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum age 18
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License
  • Must obtain and maintain an Alabama Department of Public Health Office of EMS Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic license within three years of employment
  • A current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate that is valid for a period of not less than 6 months and maintained until completion of Firefighter I/II (Career F/F)
  • Must obtain and maintain certification as a Firefighter I/II (Career F/F) by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission within one year of employment
