Patient Access Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at the University of Iowa. This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires a strong understanding of healthcare operations and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Schedule patient appointments for multiple outpatient clinics, ensuring that patients are scheduled to the right department and that visit types, providers, dates, lengths of visit, and times are utilized correctly.
- Coordinate all necessary preparatory tests and obtain records to maximize the efficiency of patient visits.
- Inform patients of their visit-specific preparatory instructions and ensure notification about their upcoming appointments via their preferred communication method.
- Follow established workflows to confirm patient financial security for their visits.
- Anticipate patient needs and serve as a patient advocate, resolving scheduling issues and using independent judgment to assist with patient requests outside of scheduling scope.
- Uphold departmental best practices, quality, and professionalism standards and policies.
- Serve as a mentor, coach, role model, and service excellence ambassador for staff, coworkers, patients, and visitors.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typically 6-12 months of administrative experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and database applications.
- Experience with hospital operations and/or ambulatory clinic operations.
- Experience with the Epic system.
- Experience scheduling in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Competitive salary range: $41,541 - $63,597.
- Hybrid work arrangement within Iowa.
