The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) operates under the guidance of an Anesthesiologist to deliver safe and effective anesthesia care to patients in various settings, including operating rooms, procedure rooms, and MRI environments. This role requires the ability to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for providing age-appropriate care across the patient lifespan. The position may involve shifts ranging from 8 to 24 hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer general and regional anesthesia under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, adhering to the delineation of privileges.
  • Engage in the preoperative and postoperative assessment and management of patients.
  • Assist in the upkeep and management of supplies and equipment utilized in anesthesia care.
  • Respond to emergencies related to airway management and resuscitation efforts.
  • Contribute to Albany Medical College's Center for Nurse Anesthesiology program through participation in didactic and clinical teaching and evaluation of students.
  • Support the maintenance of hospital procedures, policies, safety regulations, and program objectives.
  • Conduct patient interviews to obtain informed consent.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Nurse Anesthetist, the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, or the Director of Operating Room Anesthesia.
  • Comply with the policies and procedures of Albany Medical Center.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from a program accredited by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs - required.
  • CRNA - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - required.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure - required.
  • Current certification by the NBCRNA - required.
