As a key member of our operations, you will work closely with the Operations Superintendent and subcontractors to ensure smooth and safe material handling processes. Your primary responsibilities will center around driving and operating heavy machinery on and off railroad property.
Responsibilities:- Proficiently operate a boom truck equipped with a hydraulic knuckle-boom crane.
- Drive grapple trucks and utilize the loader to pick up, stockpile, and load scrap ties onto trucks and railcars.
- Effectively segregate railroad materials using the boom mechanism.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and efficiently.
- Demonstrate a strong ability to receive and implement instructions from your immediate supervisor.
- Adhere to and uphold strict safety regulations, including those set by the company, FRA, DOT, and OSHA.
- Proactively identify and avoid potential hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, personnel, or falling objects.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting any defects to your supervisor for repair.
- Maintain professional communication through phone calls and in-person interactions with internal personnel and business contacts.
- Ability to travel extensively (100% of the time).
- Intermediate proficiency with tablets and smartphones.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction).
- Experience working effectively within small teams.
- Knowledge or experience in operating grapple trucks, booms, and log loaders.
- Solid mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to complete daily electronic logs accurately.
- Prior railroad experience.
- Experience with extensive travel for work assignments.
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A).
- Provide a Medical Examination Certificate.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report and Criminal Background Check.
- Adhere to railroad regulations, which prohibit felonies within the past 7 years.
