About the Role

The Port Authority of NY & NJ Engineering is a leading national organization in innovative planning, design, and construction of critical transportation infrastructure. We are seeking a Senior Principal Architect to lead our architectural design staff and deliver projects that meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and supervise the preparation of code evaluations, QA/QC audits, and technical design details for consultant and in-house design documents.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Design Executive team to develop technical scopes for consultant work and perform technical reviews as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with Engineering Department's CADD and BIM standards for in-house and consultant work.
  • Supervise staff in preparing planning, conceptual, design development, and construction documentation for facility capital projects and programs.
  • Provide design services during construction, including submittal reviews, response to RFIs, site visits, and preparation of post-award contract changes as necessary.
  • Serve as a technical resource to other Principals and staff on their portfolio of projects, including art, urban planning, and design, and historic preservation specialties.
  • Assist the SDE team in consultant selection, including preparation of Request for Proposal and technical guidelines.
  • Maintain a portfolio of projects with complex technical and administrative challenges.
  • Provide a wide range of architectural services to client departments, including Aviation Redevelopment programs and Major Capital Programs.
  • Ensure that architectural projects and efforts are completed on time and on budget, working with the Chief Architect to resolve scope, budget, or schedule issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A professional Bachelor's degree in architecture from an accredited university or college.
  • Registered Architect licensure in either the state of New York or New Jersey.
  • In-depth understanding of all applicable codes, laws, and standards applicable to public space planning and design.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of design, estimating, and field inspection for projects in the field of transportation planning and architecture.
  • Experience managing a large, full-service staff of at least 5 architects in the production of transportation programs and projects through all phases of design and construction inspection.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications
  • A professional Master's Degree in Architecture.
  • Registered Architect licensure in New York and New Jersey.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing project plans, setting priorities, coordinating activities, handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and delegating tasks and responsibilities that are multi-faceted and complex.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Primavera P6, SharePoint, eBuilder, SAP, Bluebeam Revu, PDPS, and WinTrak.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and experience in problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Rapid adaptability to new information, continuous improvement, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles, and a track record of acting decisively and effectively under pressure.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering project delivery processes, including design and construction management, construction cost estimating, and project budgeting and scheduling processes.
  • Experience implementing sustainable design guidelines, including LEED and Envision.
  • Membership and active involvement in multiple professional organizations.
