Position Overview
Gaston Social Services is dedicated to safeguarding, nurturing, and empowering individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves. This is achieved through the administration of federal, state, and local programs aimed at enhancing the welfare of our citizens.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are essential for this role:
- Delivering a range of adoption services, including conducting Pre-Placement Assessments for agency, independent, and relative adoptive families; creating child profiles for children cleared for adoption; completing relative and independent adoptions, and providing post-adoptive services, including adoption subsidies. This involves training, information collection, background checks, and completion of necessary state documentation to ensure children find permanent homes.
- Recruiting and retaining adoptive families by offering training, education, and support. Agency foster and adoptive homes are crucial for providing safe and stable environments for children in the foster care system.
- Ensuring a secure and stable placement for children in the adoption process by matching their needs with the strengths of foster/adoptive parents to determine the best fit.
- Participating in court hearings and team meetings, attending local training for professional development, maintaining accurate case records, and preparing monthly and court reports. Engaging in adoption committee meetings to identify potential adoptive placements for legally cleared children.
- Meeting other program requirements, such as handling problem pregnancy cases, providing intermediary services, and supporting foster care workers in cases where the permanent plan is adoption.
- Performing additional duties as assigned to foster teamwork and ensure permanency for children.
A. Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
B. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution with a Child Welfare Collaborative (CPS positions only).
C. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with one year of experience in case management, assessment, referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psychosocial therapy, or treatment planning.
D. A four-year degree in a human services field with at least 25 semester hours of approved coursework and two years of relevant experience.
E. A four-year degree with three years of related experience.
A valid driver's license is required. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, particularly in working with children and adolescents, along with knowledge of child development. Understanding the impact of separation and loss on children removed from their families would be particularly beneficial.
Additional Information
Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $27.89/hr.
The selected applicant must successfully complete a drug screening test prior to employment.
