REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education

ROLE SUMMARY:
We are looking for enthusiastic and empathetic educators to join our Evening ESL Program as English as a New Language (ENL) Instructors. This essential role will empower refugees, immigrants, and native-born English language learners to reach their academic and personal aspirations. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating a nurturing learning atmosphere where students acquire the English language skills and thematic knowledge necessary to become engaged community members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize culturally and linguistically responsive teaching methods that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring every student feels valued and empowered in a safe learning environment.
  • Enhance English Language Proficiency through a comprehensive ENL curriculum that systematically develops students' reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills through thematic instruction.
  • Deliver targeted instruction in Best Plus oral language assessment, employing language practice and test-taking strategies to help students meet benchmarks.
  • Design and implement engaging thematic lessons that address personal, family, and community needs.
  • Provide individualized, partnership, and small group support for students requiring additional assistance, including targeted interventions for specific language or thematic areas.
  • Continuously evaluate students' English language proficiency and content knowledge using various assessment tools, using data to inform instruction and tailor learning plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, assessment results, and individualized learning plans, utilizing both digital and physical systems.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, counselors, administrators, and community partners to provide comprehensive support for ENL students.
  • Advocate for the needs of ENL students, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current on best practices in ENL instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • NYS Teacher Certification or certification from another state.
  • Bachelor's degree in TESOL preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience.
  • Master's degree and tenured status preferred.
  • Strong understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices.
  • Passion for working with students from diverse backgrounds and urban settings.
SALARY: As per Unit I contract, $31.67 per hour.
