Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to specimen collection and processing, ensuring adherence to established protocols and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws and specimen collection with precision, ensuring proper labeling and handling of samples.
  • Collect and manage specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Clearly communicate the venipuncture process and other collection methods to patients.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using both straight and butterfly needles.
  • Thoroughly comprehend all physician orders related to specimen collection.
  • Ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes.
  • Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
  • Verify all test requisitions against the provided scripts for accuracy.
  • Prepare specimens for transport while maintaining integrity and compliance with regulations.
  • Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure proper documentation.
  • Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations at all times.
  • Participate in annual training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding laboratory results in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification as mandated by state regulations.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in a high-volume laboratory or healthcare environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills:

  • At least 2 years of experience in phlebotomy.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent work ethic and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques using various types of needles.
  • Accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Skilled in processing specimens for transport.
