Job Summary

This position is a key member of the dental team and is responsible for providing routine and advanced prophylactic and therapeutic dental hygiene care, providing educational information to patients and the community, and motivating patients to practice daily oral hygiene care.


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform periodontal exams, periodontal treatment, prophylaxis, and therapeutic procedures to maintain patients' oral health.
  • Develop and implement individual dental care plans for patients, taking into account their unique needs and health status.
  • Perform preventive procedures, such as applying sealants and fluoride, and prescribed treatments to prevent oral health issues.
  • Perform scaling and root planing procedures to remove plaque and tartar from teeth.
  • Smooth and polish rough restorations, place temporary fillings, administer local anesthesia, place, and remove rubber dams.
  • Provide assistance to the dentist during patient procedures, such as taking X-rays and preparing patients for treatment.
  • Maintain current training in Electronic Health Record systems for patient documentation and data management.
  • Record exam findings and maintain patient records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Responsible for taking proper diagnostic digital dental images and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Develop and participate in community education and prevention programs to promote oral health awareness and best practices.
  • Maintain the dental clinic to current Nisqually Indian Tribe dental program sterilization and infection control standards.
  • Maintain all HIPAA and related confidentiality rules and regulations at all times.

Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program.
  • 1-2 years' experience working in a dental clinic, preferably in a tribal or public health setting.
  • Tribal or public health experience is highly desirable.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice dental hygiene in Washington State without restriction.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification within 3 months of hire.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to chart quickly and accurately in the Electronic Health Record system.
  • Ability to work with children and special needs patients.
  • Knowledge of professional dental hygiene practices and standards.
  • Well-developed computer skills, including ability to use computer for scheduling, word documents, and reasonable keyboard skills.
