Paraprofessional Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Paraprofessional to join our educational team in Lake Forest, Illinois. The successful candidate will assist teachers in the classroom, provide support to students, and contribute to a positive and effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teachers with classroom management and instructional tasks, ensuring a smooth and productive learning environment.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals.
- Help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to succeed.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources, ensuring that teachers have the tools they need to deliver high-quality instruction.
- Supervise students during non-classroom times, including in the cafeteria, on the playground, and during field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Support students with daily activities, including personal care if needed, promoting their independence and self-confidence.
- Monitor and record student progress and behavior, providing valuable insights to teachers and other staff members.
- Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment, promoting respect, empathy, and understanding among students and staff.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff to support student learning and well-being, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to succeed.
- Participate in professional development and training sessions, staying up-to-date with best practices and emerging trends in education.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree or higher, or completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, or a minimum of 60 college credit hours, or successful completion of a formal state or local assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for helping students succeed.
- Basic understanding of child development and instructional strategies.
- Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting as required by Illinois state law.
- Completion of any required state and local certifications for paraprofessionals.
- Previous experience as a paraprofessional or teacher's aide.
- Training or coursework in education or a related field.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Capability to stoop, kneel, and crouch to assist students.
- This position will be primarily based in a classroom setting, with some duties performed outside the classroom during supervision times and field trips.
