Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Exception Handling Specialist IV to join our team at Clinical Pathology Laboratories, Inc. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and solving complex issues in the laboratory, serving as an internal and external resource for specimen and testing information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize resources effectively to maximize productivity, determine priority, and ensure quality service.
  • Efficiently use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for ordering, crediting, noting out, canceling tests, and determining specimen acceptability.
  • Identify proper tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type.
  • Provide specimen requirements, reference ranges, and information on specimen stability.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Understand test requesting, labeling, specimen storage, and retrieval, as well as tracking of all specimens received for testing.
  • Understand current work lists and how to track all ordered tests analyzed.
  • Utilize customer service skills to handle inquiries effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform administrative duties, including maintaining records.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the organization.
  • Interpret results based on stability, transport temperature, and values.
  • Handle changing, removing, and transferring of results.
  • Conduct audits as needed, such as fresh tissue logs, correlation studies, instrument or software applications, and statistics.
  • Perform advanced duties with minimal direction.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Required: Bachelor or Associate of Science Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science obtained from an accredited institution with Medical Technologist Certification.
  • Preferred: One year of medical technology training or experience in a laboratory performing high complexity testing.
Licensure and Certifications
  • Required: State licensure if applicable.

  • Ability to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company's values and business practices, and do both consistently.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain cultural competence.
  • Proficient with related software.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires manipulation of tools, objects, and equipment using the following physical motions: pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with one hand or both, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist, climbing under, lifting up, lifting down, and reaching under.
  • Requires light to medium lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Routinely requires visual discrimination of color, size, shape, and motility.
Work Conditions

Environmentally controlled medical environment with exposure to noise. Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. May come into contact with contagious pathogens and hazardous chemicals. May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures.

This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees will be trained on reasonable safeguards and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality, as well as abide by all applicable privacy and security standards. Employees are expected only to access PHI when it is required to fulfill job duties.
