Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our team at Mississippi State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on poultry pathogens, with a focus on Avian Pathogenic E. coli (APEC) strains.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on APEC and other poultry pathogens to elucidate mechanisms of pathogenesis
  • Collaborate with other scientists and researchers to develop effective solutions for poultry health
  • Design and implement experiments to investigate the impact of strain variations and tissue tropism of APEC
  • Develop and implement probiotic and vaccination interventions to mitigate the effects of APEC
  • Interact with staff and students to contribute to departmental strategic goals and service efforts
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Poultry Science, Microbiology, or a closely related field
  • Experience with data collection and analysis, statistical expertise, and experimental design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to publish research results in refereed journals
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a strong focus on collaboration and stakeholder engagement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of refereed journal publication and evidence of cross-discipline collaborations
  • Experience working with stakeholder and end-user groups
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a laboratory and field setting, with occasional office work as needed.
