Job Title: Health and Safety Manager

Flex-N-Gate Corporation is a leading manufacturer and supplier of components for the automotive industry, recognized for its commitment to excellence and innovation. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team.

Job Summary

The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining company-wide occupational safety programs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. This role will serve as the coordinator for occupational safety programs within one or more divisions and/or departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain health and safety objectives, targets, and control procedures to ensure compliance with legislation;
  • Stay current with all legislated safety training;
  • Develop, review, implement, and maintain required Health and Safety policies and procedures;
  • Drive health and safety awareness among employees, providing leadership on issues of health and safety;
  • Foster new ideas to improve the safety program and reduce the environmental footprint of the facility;
  • Reduce or eliminate workplace accidents and incidents;
  • Conduct weekly health and safety inspections and measure compliance with respective programs;
  • Promote a safe working environment by coordinating plant inspections and reporting statistics;
  • Evaluate new projects or modifications to existing processes for potential effects on the environment or workers' health and safety;
  • Identify and organize required health and safety training for all existing and new employees;
  • Represent the organization in health and safety issues with the Ministry of Labour and communicate externally with other agencies;
  • Review Health, Safety Contractor Agreements in accordance with facility requirements;
  • Identify health and safety concerns by surveying operations, occupational conditions, and investigating violations;
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement's safety concern process;
  • Comply with all applicable legislation and regulations by advising management on necessary actions;
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications;
  • Coordinate monthly JHSC meetings, prepare minutes, and distribute information to senior management and committee members;
  • Replenish first aid rooms, first aid kits, and medical/safety personal protective equipment as needed;
  • Lead and/or participate on teams with safety, technical, management, and other team members;
  • Act as a team leader for special task forces or teams;
  • Provide direction and/or guidance to less experienced occupational safety personnel;
  • Provide training to managers and others on occupational safety issues.
Requirements
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize tasks;
  • Highly motivated, service-oriented individual with attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of concrete formwork, demolition, and heavy civil work is an asset;
  • Working towards certification or already certified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act/Regulations is considered an asset;
  • Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives is a prerequisite;
  • Strong analytical ability;
  • Supervisory and interpersonal skills are required;
  • Strong working knowledge of HRIS;
  • Troubleshooting ability is required;
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated good internal customer service skills;
  • Proven good presentation skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Good computer skills;
  • University Degree in a related field or Community College diploma in a related field or five years of safety-related work experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, and MSDA) is considered a strong asset;
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and workers' compensation legislation;
  • Strong organizational skills.
