We are in search of a Senior Field Engineering and Surveying Specialist to join our Construction Program. This role will support the Resident Engineer in executing advanced engineering responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative and not exhaustive of all tasks that may be performed in this role:
- Administer contracts effectively.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of design documents and submit engineering change proposals as necessary.
- Oversee, mentor, and coordinate the schedules of team members.
- Inspect, test, and ensure safety compliance for construction projects.
- Guarantee timely execution of all construction-related tasks.
- Facilitate training for team members in software applications, surveying techniques, safety protocols, and construction methodologies.
- Establish preliminary project cost estimates by analyzing project scope and estimating required quantities.
- Provide engineering insights post-project scope determination and continuously review project plans.
- Verify documentation and work quantities for contractor payments.
- Coordinate WYDOT projects with various governmental and private entities.
- Engage with other WYDOT programs to collect supplementary information to meet deadlines.
- Foster positive public relations with stakeholders involved in construction projects.
- Collaborate with contractors throughout all project phases to ensure timely, budget-friendly, and quality-compliant project completion.
- Ensure adherence to WYDOT standards.
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
- Review proposed plans and data for accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze designs and verify that they align with existing conditions.
- Calculate project quantities and verify cost reports.
- Prepare alignment calculations based on preliminary survey data.
- Resolve geometric and trigonometric challenges encountered.
- Annotate aerial imagery and perform field verifications.
- Develop preliminary designs and recommendations for construction initiatives.
- Oversee significant construction projects by documenting pay quantities and managing work schedules.
- Ensure proper sampling and testing of materials; audit material summaries for quality assurance.
- Lead all field survey operations.
- Train team members in inspection, surveying, and documentation best practices.
- Communicate project information and potential impacts to stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Possess knowledge of surveying methods, engineering drawing calculations, highway engineering principles, and construction practices. Proficient in relevant software for design and calculations. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities are essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience in Construction and Field Surveying, or a Bachelor's Degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and terrains, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate near heavy machinery.
NOTES:
This position requires travel and may involve weekend work. The Wyoming Department of Transportation maintains a Drug-Free Workplace.
