Overview

We are seeking a skilled Critical Care Nurse Specialist to join our team at Christus Health. Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 10-bed, modern unit that specializes in the care of critically ill adults and elderly patients.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, preparing equipment and assisting physicians during examinations and treatments, administering prescribed medications, changing dressings, cleaning wounds, and monitoring vital signs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate as primary nurse, associate nurse, team member or team leader in planning and implementing patient care
  • Direct and assist in carrying out safe aseptic techniques and procedures
  • Offer leadership and direction to support staff within the department
  • Monitor up to 24 telemetry units

Care Environment

The ICU monitors as many as 24 telemetry units and has an average daily census of 8 patients. The most frequent medical diagnoses include Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, COPD, Septic Shock, CVA, Overdoses, Hypertensive Crisis, Pneumonia and DKA. Common surgical conditions include Appendectomy, Exploratory laparotomy, Cholecystectomy (laparoscopic and open procedures), Bowel Resection, Hysterectomy and Amputation.

Educational Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Work Experience

  • One year of experience in nursing preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current Texas State RN License
  • CPR (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire/transfer date NIHSS required within 90 days of hire/transfer date

Estimated Salary Range

$65,000 - $95,000 per year, depending on experience
