Per Diem Nursing Position

The Registered Nurse of the Wound Center at ECHN reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager. This role is responsible for providing high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care, coordinating patient care with the interdisciplinary team, and communicating effectively with patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize the nursing process to provide comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' medical and surgical conditions, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, and provide age-appropriate care to patients served.
- Assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management tools and techniques, and educate patients and families regarding pain management.
- Develop and revise individualized plans of care based on assessment and patient response to treatment, evaluating overall plans daily for effectiveness.
- Follow medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner using the appropriate tools.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations, utilizing critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
- Formulate and implement a teaching plan for patients and families based on identified learning needs, evaluating effectiveness.
- Demonstrate autonomous practice, consistent with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth and development, and serving as a professional role model and mentor.
- Provide an accurate and pertinent report of patients' conditions for safe transfer of care.
- Assess, stage, and measure wounds accurately and in accordance with policy.
- Implement, follow, and evaluate all National Healing Wound Care protocols and processes.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure in the state of Connecticut.
- Maintains clinical competency required for the area of assignment, including BCLS.
- Previous med-surg nursing experience.
- Wound care experience preferred.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Possesses basic computer skills.
