Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in the scrub role as assigned, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment.
  • Assist in emergency situations as assigned, demonstrating expertise and composure under pressure.
  • Maintain a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain educational records and timecards, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Maintain competencies, staying current with the latest techniques and technologies.
  • Prepare the surgical field and supplies/instruments delivered to the field, verifying availability and readiness.
  • Assist in opening sterile supplies and instruments, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Assist with clean-up and turnover upon completion of cases, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Efficiently utilize supplies to avoid waste and decrease costs, promoting a culture of sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide a cooperative work environment, promoting open communication and respect.
  • Assist in maintaining goals of Surgical Services and Advocate, contributing to the organization's mission and vision.
  • Share clinical and professional knowledge in a supportive/educational manner, promoting a culture of learning and growth.
  • Accept and complete team responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Comply with hospital policies and procedures, maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintenance of professional growth, demonstrating self-direction and a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
Licensure:
  • Surgical Technologist
Education/Experience Required:
  • -1-2 years OR scrub experience (preferred) -High school graduate or GED. -Completion of ST program in an accredited school approved by NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • -Good communication skills. -Ability to independently perform scrub duties.
  • -CPR certification -CST Certification approved by NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease and radiation. This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to cooperate and work well with others. Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others. Ability to work in a stressful, changing environment. Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays. Ability to assume on-call responsibility.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
