Mielegalaid is seeking a Chief Litigation Officer to oversee and manage our essential legal initiatives aimed at delivering hope, dignity, and justice to low-income and vulnerable populations.

Established to serve clients across various regions, Mielegalaid operates through multiple offices to ensure comprehensive legal support.
Key Responsibilities:
The Chief Litigation Officer will report directly to the Executive Director and collaborate with the senior leadership team to guarantee that Mielegalaid delivers high-quality legal representation efficiently throughout our service areas.
In partnership with a dedicated team of attorneys, the Chief Litigation Officer will:- Provide guidance and oversight to staff on specific legal matters and strategies;
- Formulate plans to tackle complex issues affecting our clients in various legal domains and execute those plans with the team;
- Evaluate and communicate legal developments impacting our operations, including changes in state and federal law, local court rules, and significant judicial decisions;
- Support advocacy efforts beyond litigation by aiding in the creation and execution of policies related to client intake and prioritization;
- Train and mentor staff in collaboration with subject matter experts;
- Review and authorize appeals requests;
- Assess legal content for Mielegalaid's educational materials and community outreach initiatives;
- Engage with internal work groups;
- Participate in evaluations of legal staff;
- Ensure compliance with the standards set by funding organizations;
- Advise on ethical considerations and represent attorneys in disciplinary proceedings;
- Ensure Mielegalaid's presence in advocacy networks and judicial committees;
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership on organization-wide administrative projects, including advocacy reports and policy development;
- Deliver presentations to the board of directors as required;
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest and comprehensive knowledge in poverty law, with a commitment to providing a full spectrum of legal services to low-income individuals.
Extensive litigation experience is crucial, along with the ability to lead effectively, think strategically, and manage multiple complex priorities.
Experience in managing a multi-office intake system is preferred.
Applicants must be law school graduates with a valid license to practice law, or eligible for admission on motion.
A minimum of 10 years of legal practice is preferred, although candidates with less experience but a proven record of innovative litigation and leadership may also be considered.
