Job Summary

The Graduate/Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Director, or their designee, in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department and established professional standards. This role requires effective interaction with patients and healthcare members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete admission assessments and develop and maintain Nursing Care Plans (NCPs) according to Policy and Procedure.
  • Assess individual patient learning needs and institute teaching methods in preparation for discharge.
  • Regularly assess nursing care, identify potential problems, develop nursing interventions, and direct implementation of nursing interventions to all health care team members.
  • Administer medication in accordance with policies/procedures/standards of care.
  • Use computer programs, including Order Entry, per policy and procedure as assigned.
  • Maintain proper level of stock and emergency supplies as unit requires.
  • Utilize proper techniques of body mechanics.
  • Correctly identify patient by name and ID band for all direct care, procedures or treatments.
  • Patients with allergies are properly identified.
  • Strictly follow principles of asepsis and infection control guidelines when performing patient care.
  • Routinely provide for patient safety through preventive measures (i.e. side rails, restraints as per physician order, low bed position and safe transport to other areas).
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in hospital emergency and disaster drills; know role in the event of a fire while on duty.
  • Work effectively and communicate frequently with other members of the patient care team.
  • Handle telephone information with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality; receive information and distribute messages appropriately.
  • Communicate accurately and respectfully with patients; respond to patient needs or requests for assistance promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Successful application for RN Limited Permit with NYS prior to start.
  • Conditional on passing of RN Exam within 12 months of graduation of Nursing Program.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

This role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling beds, wheelchairs and recliners in excess of approximately 200 pounds with assistance. The position also requires exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and infectious/hazardous materials.
