Job Details:

Purpose

Act as a science educator within the University of Texas High School District by creating and delivering online courses, assessments, and tutoring sessions. Track student performance and engage with students and stakeholders to foster academic achievement. This role is supported through specific funding with continuation dependent on performance and available resources.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver online instruction for secondary students in core science subjects, ensuring their academic progress towards high school graduation or equivalency. Utilize diverse online teaching methods, including feedback mechanisms, group interactions, and interactive course elements. Provide constructive feedback that is precise and actionable. Address student inquiries and evaluate assignments promptly. Exhibit a thorough understanding of educational standards and lesson components for each subject. Monitor student progress, compile reports, and recommend additional support as necessary to promote success in coursework and standardized assessments.
  • Offer online tutoring and facilitate examinations in various formats, including real-time, on-demand, and in-person options. Collaborate with peers, leveraging student data and research to inform instructional strategies and enhance effectiveness. Participate in required training and uphold examination integrity with meticulous attention. Identify and report any irregularities in assessments to curriculum leaders in accordance with established protocols. Propose strategies to bolster student success. Prepare resources for tutoring sessions, including study materials and guides. Oversee standardized assessments as required.
  • Design and propose lesson content, enhancements, and modifications that align with educational standards while collaborating with campus and district leadership to ensure consistency in student expectations. Develop online course materials, tutoring sessions, and assessments that adhere to educational standards, incorporate scaffolding, and reflect current best practices. Create comprehensive lesson plans, study aids, and instructional materials to support student learning. Comply with institutional guidelines for effective lesson design and meet content development deadlines.
  • Assist students with special needs and diverse backgrounds, including those requiring accommodations. Implement necessary adjustments in online courses and tutoring. Participate in meetings to support students with unique requirements. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and maintain regular communication with families to facilitate student success.
  • Engage in various activities to support the educational programs at the University. Stay updated on best practices and policies relevant to the content area. Maintain active educator certification and adhere to the ethical standards of the profession. Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing educational programs, including professional development and student outreach. Participate in extracurricular activities that promote student engagement and learning.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, science, or a related field, coupled with two years of experience in secondary education. Valid Texas Teacher Certification in high school science and a minimum of two years teaching experience in Texas public schools. Proven experience in designing instructional materials and assessments for high school science courses. In-depth knowledge of educational standards, assessment expectations, and effective instructional practices. Experience supporting diverse student needs, including at-risk and special education populations. Demonstrated success in helping students achieve academic goals and in tracking and reporting student performance data. Proficiency in online instruction and technology integration. Strong organizational and communication skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in education, science, or a related field. More than two years of teaching experience, particularly in secondary science courses. Experience with various high school science curricula, including online and advanced placement courses. Leadership experience in an educational context, such as leading professional development initiatives. Comprehensive understanding of educational standards and regulations. Familiarity with online learning management systems and experience in curriculum development.

Salary Range

$54,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Onsite work is expected for this position. Flexible work arrangements may be negotiated after the initial probationary period.
