Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Dosimetrist to join our Radiation Oncology team at Henry Ford Health System. As a Medical Dosimetrist, you will play a critical role in the treatment planning process, working closely with radiation oncologists and medical physicists to develop personalized treatment plans for patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with medical physicists and radiation oncologists.
  • Derive computerized treatment plans and communicate technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to radiation oncologists and radiation therapists.
  • Perform routine duties independently, consulting with radiation oncologists and medical physicists as required.
  • Operate and perform quality assurance on treatment planning computers under the direction of medical physicists.
  • Have working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
  • Possess mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus, and be able to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a formally organized hospital or college-affiliated medical dosimetry program with clinical and classroom curriculum, and other training and/or experience as a medical dosimetrist, totaling at least 18 months.
  • OR Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree with a major in the physical or biological sciences, or registered radiation therapy technologist.
  • Together with either of these credentials, demonstrate completion of two or more years of on-the-job training and work experience in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist.
  • OR Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Science degree in a field other than the physical or biological sciences.
  • Together with this degree, demonstrate completion of on-the-job training in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist and have a subsequent period of supervised work experience in medical dosimetry of a minimum of four years.
