Tax Resolution Representative

This position is located in the Wage and Investment Division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The Wage and Investment Division is responsible for providing taxpayer assistance and support services.

We are seeking a Tax Resolution Representative to join our team. As a Tax Resolution Representative, you will provide specialized clerical assistance to Tax Resolution Representatives, Tax Specialists, and other support personnel. You will assess taxpayer needs and direct them to the appropriate individual or area, control walk-in area traffic flow and demands, and identify, analyze, and make suggestions for resolution or correction to reduce barriers impacting the effectiveness of operations and improve efficiency of the work area.

• Provides specialized clerical assistance to Tax Resolution Representatives, Tax Specialists, and other support personnel.
• Assesses taxpayer needs and directs them to the appropriate individual or area.
• Controls walk-in area traffic flow and demands.
• Identifies, analyzes, and makes suggestions for resolution or correction to reduce barriers impacting the effectiveness of operations and improve efficiency of the work area.
• Examines returns, supporting documents, and monetary receipts for completeness and discrepancies.
• Monitors and tracks information for sampling requirements prior to transmission to Submission Processing Centers.
• Makes initial determinations on filing extensions, assigns Employer Identification Numbers, processes Power of Attorney requests, and resolves and assists taxpayers with entry discrepancies at kiosk terminals and inquiries on basic tax law, forms, and IRS services.

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

• Be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
• Successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
• Complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency.
• Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process.
• Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
