Position Overview

This role is essential in the epidemiology division, focusing on communicable diseases while also contributing to programs related to TB and Hepatitis.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this position encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Evaluating, planning, and coordinating various health services while providing significant input into administrative and personnel tasks.
  • Overseeing and managing patients with bacterial, vector-borne, foodborne, waterborne, and zoonotic diseases.
  • Handling Adult Day Health certifications and recertifications.
In addition, the employee may be called upon to assist the agency in responding to public health emergencies, which may include outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents as they arise.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program and one year of professional nursing experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications

- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing.

Individuals without a B.S. Degree that includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master's in Public Health will be required to complete an introductory course in public health nursing principles within one year of employment.

Degrees must be obtained from accredited institutions.

Applicants with education obtained outside the U.S. must have their academic degrees validated as equivalent to a degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques in public health.
  • Understanding of public health principles and practices.
  • Ability to coordinate available resources and organizations as needed.
  • General awareness of current social and economic issues related to public health, including health disparities.
  • Capability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Skill in dealing tactfully with others and exercising sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Aptitude for collaborating with patients and other service providers to gather necessary information and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Competence in accurately documenting services rendered and interpreting records, reports, and medical instructions.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for communication, patient record documentation, and information access.
Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background checks and negative drug tests are required.
