Position Objective:

Contributes to the delivery of exceptional, cost-efficient healthcare by providing both direct and indirect patient care, while collaborating effectively within the healthcare team.

  • Clinical Decision Making and Judgment:

Exhibits clinical nursing expertise and proficiency in the specialized area of the unit. Demonstrates the capability to apply the nursing process effectively in caring for a diverse patient population.

Utilizes all relevant laws, policies, standards, guidelines, and evidence-based practices in delivering patient and family care. Organizes and adjusts patient care activities based on both subtle and overt environmental changes.

Conducts thorough assessments of patients to gather data and identify educational needs in accordance with established standards and policies. Employs a systematic and continuous analysis of assessment data to create individualized problem lists for assigned patients.

Formulates and customizes a care plan for each patient, aligning with established standards, prioritizing problems and needs, and setting mutually agreed-upon goals. Efficiently executes the patient's care plan in compliance with applicable standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Demonstrates expertise in medication administration, pain management, and other unit-specific skills. Continuously assesses the effectiveness of care plans, making necessary adjustments based on patient responses to interventions.

  • Nurse-Patient Family Relationships:

Assesses the learning needs, readiness to learn, learning styles, and potential barriers to learning for patients and families. Develops, implements, and evaluates educational plans tailored to patient populations within the unit's specialty, adhering to applicable standards.

Applies knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan in patient care. Provides direct care to patients and families in a culturally, developmentally, and ethically appropriate manner, ensuring that care plans address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and family.

Clinical Scholarship:

Engages in quality improvement, continuous performance improvement, and risk management initiatives at the unit, department, or organizational level. Demonstrates the ability to effectively enhance all processes to achieve excellence in accordance with quality standards and benchmarks.

Supports the implementation of evidence-based guidelines and organizational policies to promote safe patient care and a secure practice environment.

Clinical Leadership:

Participates in unit shared governance in line with departmental standards. Involves in the education and orientation of new staff members. Appropriately delegates patient care activities and evaluates the outcomes of delegated tasks.

Utilizes real-time computer documentation when completing patient records.

Unit Specific Responsibilities:

Provides nursing care to adult medical patients, ranging from young adults to the elderly. Demonstrates the ability to utilize telemetry as an assessment tool and manage patient care during dysrhythmic episodes.

Identifies and addresses common nursing diagnoses within the medical population, including:

  • Activity intolerance
  • Impaired adjustment
  • Impaired physical mobility
  • Pain
  • Self-care deficit
  • Alteration in elimination
  • Potential for impaired gas exchange in the pulmonary system
  • Other diagnoses as identified
  • Risk for peripheral neurovascular dysfunction
  • Ineffective coping
  • Impaired skin integrity
  • Risk for infection

Helpful: Experience in telemetry is highly desirable. Competency in telemetry monitoring will be required within six months of hire, with training and testing provided.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Adherence to the credentialing requirements as outlined in the nursing bylaws.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Current licensure as a registered nurse. BLS certification from the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.

Working Conditions, Equipment, and Physical Demands:

Employees in this position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. The role requires medium physical demands, including the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
