Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced fitness professional to lead group exercise classes at the YMCA of Greater Seattle. As a Group Exercise Instructor, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and effective fitness classes to our members.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and instruct group exercise classes following YMCA standards and guidelines
  • Observe and discuss individual progress with participants
  • Develop positive relationships with participants and facilitate relationships among participants and members
  • Provide motivational support and guidance
  • Encourage involvement and identify potential volunteers
  • Set up and take down class equipment, reporting any issues
  • Attend staff meetings and approved trainings as required
  • Ensure safe and effective workouts, responding to and reporting accidents and incidents
  • Maintain accurate records
Qualifications
  • High school education or equivalent preferred
  • Twenty-five hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor, or equivalent
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Ability to set up, move, and store class equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current state-approved first aid certification
  • Current state-approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful
  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles, Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise, or previous YMCA or outside certification
  • Listen First Level I and II training
