Research Scientist I in Vaccine Biology

UTMB Health is looking for dedicated individuals to join our Pathology Department as a Research Scientist I. This role focuses on advancing our understanding of vaccine biology, particularly in the context of B cell competition following vaccination with complex antigens. Our research emphasizes the dynamics of germinal center and memory B cells, exploring innovative vaccine platforms and strategies. A significant aspect of our work involves studying HIV vaccine candidates through B cell transfer models.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and execute moderately complex research experiments in alignment with established technical protocols.
- Exhibit a high degree of independence and a strong commitment to research integrity.
- Adapt research methodologies as directed by the Principal Investigator.
- Establish research goals and methodologies for projects supervised by the PI.
- Independently analyze and interpret scientific data with minimal oversight.
- Conduct independent in vivo mouse vaccine experiments.
- Utilize advanced techniques such as high-parameter flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, and standard tissue culture.
- Maintain meticulous records of experiments and data, compiling and analyzing results.
- Ensure proper assembly, calibration, and operation of laboratory equipment.
- Conduct literature reviews pertinent to ongoing lab projects.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior research staff as needed.
- Adhere to departmental internal controls and perform related duties as required.
A PhD, MD, DO, or DVM in a relevant field is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD in Immunology or a closely related field.
- Significant experience with in vivo immunology experiments.
- Proficiency in standard immunological techniques such as flow cytometry and ELISAs.
- Strong molecular biology skills, including PCR and RNA work.
- At least two first-author publications in reputable immunology journals.
Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
