Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinarian to join our team at the Hernando County Animal Shelter. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing medical care and treatment to sheltered animals, ensuring their health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine and treat sick and injured animals
  • Oversee animal population limits and perform surgeries on adopted animals
  • Administer vaccinations and medications, and monitor the health and care of impounded animals
  • Participate in animal cruelty and neglect investigations, and testify in court as needed
  • Work closely with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office to oversee Field Animal Control Officers and emergency use of animal sedation and euthanasia drugs
  • Maintain effective working relationships with outside veterinarians, professional veterinary organizations, and other county officials
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited College or University
  • Experience practicing veterinarian medicine
  • Veterinary License in good standing with the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Drug Enforcement Agency License
  • Valid Florida Driver's License in good standing
