Job Summary

This position is part of a dynamic and busy research clinic in the Infectious Diseases Division of the University of Rochester. The clinic conducts research for multiple contracts with the NIH and pharmaceutical companies, focusing on COVID treatment research, monkeypox, antibacterial resistance, flu, and ongoing HIV vaccine research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care, including obtaining a health history, performing physical examinations, evaluating lab results, and assessing eligibility for research studies.
  • Provide HIV/STD prevention counseling and testing, enrollment of subjects, and continued follow-up in research studies in collaboration with other research staff and faculty.
  • Lead oversight for the clinical operations of the clinical research site (CRS).
  • Perform venipuncture, provide individualized patient education, and identify other health problems, referring clients to appropriate health providers for evaluation and management.
  • Participate in clinical audits for QA/QI, provide clinical supervision of nurses, and participate in orientation and training of new clinic research nurses and nurse practitioners.
  • Communicate issues related to maintaining current medical and nursing standards of care within the CRS to the PI and Director.
  • Coordinate clinical case management, including providing clinical consultation for medical follow-up and phone triage, directing the management of abnormal laboratory test results, and assessing the need for further intervention.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing Program and an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • NYS license as a Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including Black/African American, Latino communities, men who have sex with other men, and transgender communities, is a plus.
  • Management or leadership experience and fluency in speaking/reading/writing Spanish are also preferred.
