Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a Part-Time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Neonatal Physician Assistant to support Neonatology at UPMC Altoona. This role will work approximately 20 hours a week with variable hours and shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive physical assessments of newborns and infants, order and interpret laboratory, radiographic, and clinical data to plan and document patient management.
  • Initiate emergency evaluations and treatments, perform high-level invasive procedures such as umbilical line placement, and serve as a member of nursing and medical committees.
  • Make referrals for medical consultations, supportive services, and regulatory reporting of patient safety issues, and provide support and information to parents and families regarding patient condition, progress, and plan for care.
  • Contribute to the body of medical and nursing knowledge through collaborative and independent research and publication, and participate in determining conditions, resources, and policies basic to sound healthcare of high-risk newborns.
  • Participate in neonatal transports from referral hospitals by ground and/or air, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for patient care, and serve as a resource outside the hospital system in areas where expertise can provide a community service.
Requirements
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner: MSN or DNP required, completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program, and two years of level III or IV NICU Registered Nurse experience.
  • Neonatal Physician Assistant: Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), and one year of Physician Assistant NICU experience or completion of a neonatology residency program.
