**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator IV to join our team at Hawaii County, HI. As a key member of our Environmental Management Division, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants, ensuring the safe and efficient use of processes and equipment, and complying with pertinent regulations.

**About the Role:**

This is a permanent full-time position with the Department of Environmental Management - Wastewater Division in Hilo. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment. If selected, you will work closely with our team to ensure the effective operation of our wastewater treatment facilities, maintain accurate records, and perform various tasks as required. Your exceptional technical skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will make you an invaluable asset to our team. Additionally, you must have a current Hawai'i Mandatory Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade IV certificate, valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3 or comparable), and good driving record. **Key Responsibilities:**

  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment and tributary pumping plants, ensuring compliance with pertinent regulations.
  • Read and interpret meters, gauges, and other recording devices, making appropriate adjustments to plant operations.
  • Inspect plant and mechanical equipment for malfunctions, irregularities, and needed repairs.
  • Lubricate, change oil, and make running repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment.
  • Participate in the installation, overhaul, and major repair of treatment and pumping plant equipment.
  • Maintain sludge digestion systems, dewatering equipment, drying beds, and pulverizers.
  • Collect samples of raw, partially treated, and treated wastewater and sludge, performing chemical and physical analyses thereof.
  • Interpret laboratory results and make appropriate process adjustments.
  • Maintain records of test results, data sheets, and reports.
  • Paint equipment, buildings, and structures.
  • Keep station logs and prepare operational reports.

**Requirements:**

  • Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator IV position.
  • Current Hawai'i Mandatory Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade IV certificate.
  • Valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3 or comparable).
  • Good driving record certified by a traffic abstract confirming no DUI convictions, license revocations or suspensions for three years preceding and no moving violations for one year preceding.
