We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Food Service Operations Manager to join our team at the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. As a key member of our Nutrition and Food Service Department, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of patient meal service, planning, coordinating, and directing work operations in the main kitchen, patient units, dining rooms, and nourishment delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and direct a team of approximately 50 full-time and/or part-time Food Service Workers and CWT Workers.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations on weekends and manage any issues that arise in the absence of the Production Supervisors.
- Responsible for opening or closing the department on a daily basis.
- Plan and establish work schedules with other Food Service Supervisors by determining sequence, priority, and timing of activities and work assignments.
- Train and educate wage-grade staff on work requirements and operating procedures.
- Participate in the interview and selection of applicants considered for hire and promotion.
- Counsel employees regarding work performance and conduct.
- Communicate and inform the FSSM or designee of daily food service operations, including issues and initiate follow-up actions.
- Participate in Nutrition and Food Service short- and long-range planning, including work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, and make recommendations regarding projected Food Service requirements.
- Conduct daily huddles to obtain employee feedback, identify issues, and plan/discuss the workday assignments/events.
- Lead by example, promoting open, two-way communications throughout the day and maintaining or improving employee morale and quality of work life.
- Monitor employees' unscheduled hours, overtime, leave usage, and attendance.
- Recommend changes in work plans, assignments, and/or methods to accomplish the work effectively.
- Monitor personnel on acceptable hygiene practices, infection control, and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Complete performance appraisals for Food Service Workers.
- Recommend corrective action and develop performance improvement plans as appropriate.
- Assess probationary employees and make recommendations for retention or termination.
- Conduct daily sanitation and safety inspections in all Food Service areas.
- Document corrective action to assure the highest standards of sanitation and safety.
- A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to do the work of this position.
- Applicants will be rated in accordance with the job requirements.
This position requires constant walking, standing, bending, stooping, and moderate to heavy lifting. Must be able to move advanced food delivery carts that weigh up to 55 pounds and properly use a cart tugger puller to assist in AFD cart movement.
