Join a prestigious academic healthcare institution, UChicago Medicine, as a Clinical Operations Supervisor in the Family Birth Center.
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily operations of the Labor and Delivery unit as well as the Mother/Baby unit during your assigned shift, ensuring the provision of high-quality, patient-focused care while maintaining financial accountability.
At the Family Birth Center, we pride ourselves on delivering a personalized birthing experience within a supportive and private setting.
Our dedicated team of professionals assists expectant mothers and their families with empathy and respect throughout the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.
Designed to enhance comfort and safety, the Family Birth Center features private triage, delivery, antepartum, and recovery suites, along with spacious natural birthing rooms equipped with hydrotherapy tubs, and operating rooms to facilitate cesarean deliveries when necessary.
The Clinical Operations Supervisor (COS) will be responsible for managing patient flow and operational efficiency during their designated shift.
Key Responsibilities include conducting daily quality audits, managing performance improvement boards, leading staff huddles, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered care in a cost-effective manner.
This role operates in collaboration with and under the guidance of the Patient Care Manager (PCM). In the absence of the PCM, the COS will assume full responsibility for the unit, providing 24/7 support.Core Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with PCMs to implement changes and enhance existing programs based on staff feedback.
- Assist in establishing objectives that align with departmental goals and the hospital's mission.
- Engage with various resources and departments to streamline operations.
- Identify challenges, propose solutions, and act as a catalyst for change in patient care.
- Provide clinical guidance and resources for the unit.
- Conduct rounds to assess and improve patient and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee staff performance management, development, and retention strategies.
- Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives by identifying issues, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting findings to the QI committee and staff.
- Evaluate staffing requirements and contribute to the recruitment and selection process.
- Monitor budgetary constraints and optimize care efficiency and throughput.
- Actively participate in committee work and task force assignments as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Proven charge nurse experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities or equivalent experience.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- Minimum of two years of experience in women's health.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to foster open communication among staff, leadership, and other healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN).
- Relevant specialty certifications.
- Experience in an academic medical center and familiarity with unionized environments.
- Understanding of collective bargaining agreements.
- At least one year of experience as an Assistant Manager or Clinical Coordinator.
- Preferred experience in Labor and Delivery.
