Position Overview

The North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System is in search of a skilled and dedicated Physician specializing in Orthopedic Surgery. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services while contributing to the advancement of a VA academic hospital program.

Key Responsibilities
This is an ongoing recruitment effort. Applications will be continuously accepted, and qualified candidates will be reviewed weekly until the position is filled. The VA provides a comprehensive total rewards package, including:

Position Details
The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Orthopedic Surgeon with Fellowship training in Sports Medicine. This role may include a dual appointment with the VA Medical Center and a prestigious university health system.

Essential Duties
The Physician will be responsible for:

  • Managing general orthopedic conditions, including patients requiring arthroplasty, arthroscopy, and fracture management.
  • Independently evaluating orthopedic patients and performing in-office procedures.
  • Supervising orthopedic residents and collaborating with physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses.
  • Performing a wide range of orthopedic surgeries, both elective and emergent.
  • Engaging in academic teaching and supervising residents during their rotations.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a compressed work schedule, typically averaging four days per week. On-call duties are required, with coverage approximately every five weeks.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license.
  • Completion of residency training in Orthopedic Surgery/Sports Medicine.
  • Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery/Sports Medicine.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements
Candidates must pass a pre-employment physical examination and be capable of performing moderate lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
