Job Summary

The State Water Resources Control Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Officer to lead our efforts in protecting and improving the quality of California's water resources. As a key guardian of the State's water resources, the Executive Officer will oversee a dedicated staff of approximately 40 people, including engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists, and administrative support staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of professionals to ensure effective implementation of water quality plans, programs, and policies.
  • Represent the Board in public forums and collaborate with local, state, tribal, and federal agencies related to water quality and environmental protection.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address complex water quality issues, including local water resiliency, protection of public health, and environmental sustainability.
  • Oversee the regulation of industrial, commercial, municipal, and agricultural dischargers, as well as permitting recycled water projects and overseeing cleanup of contaminated soil and groundwater.
  • Develop, update, and oversee water quality plans, programs, and policies that address environmental injustices, advance racial equity, and promote environmental sustainability.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess skilled and experienced leadership, a collaborative and inclusive work and management style, strategic planning and critical thinking skills, dedication to environmental protection and resilience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to analyze and synthesize complex information.

Work Environment

The position is based in Palm Desert, California, and requires in-office attendance at least 4 days a week. Some teleworking will be permissible.
