POSITION OVERVIEW

The Culinary Specialist is responsible for preparing large volumes of nutritious meals for residents, adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and company standards. This role reports directly to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
  • Implement and interpret dietary service programs, goals, and policies
  • Understand and comply with company policies, including those related to harassment and complaints
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Assist in the safe evacuation of residents when required
  • Prepare meals that are visually appealing and suitable for each resident's dietary needs
  • Knowledgeable about various dietary restrictions and food consistency requirements
  • Ensure availability of food and supplies for upcoming meals
  • Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance
  • Exhibit strong concentration, reasoning skills, and sound judgment
  • Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Perform physical tasks including sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, and moving intermittently during shifts
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational functionality of kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Cook food according to established menus and dietary restrictions
  • Prepare and handle meat, fish, and poultry safely
  • Monitor the use of government food commodities to ensure compliance with procedures
  • Wash and maintain kitchen utensils and cooking equipment
  • Keep accurate records of food usage and expenses
  • Supervise the activities of staff assisting in meal preparation and service
  • Bake various bread and pastry items
  • Conduct inventory of kitchen supplies and equipment
