POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is accountable for the autonomous oversight of care delivery to a designated group of residents within a nursing unit. This role involves assessing resident requirements, formulating personalized care plans, administering nursing interventions, evaluating care effectiveness, and supervising Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) along with other staff in the provision of nursing services.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current and valid nursing license in the state of practice.
  • Recent clinical experience, education, or specialized skills in geriatric care.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations governing nursing practices.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and practices.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through Continuing Education Credits in clinical topics, management, and personal growth.
  • Effective communication skills with staff, residents, and family members.
  • Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn company-specific software.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
  • Compliance with local health regulations and successful completion of post-employment health assessments, including drug screening and background checks.

The primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurse include conducting comprehensive resident assessments while adhering to regulatory standards for care delivery. The RN is tasked with ensuring that high-quality nursing care is provided, focusing on positive outcomes through the nursing process. This includes interviewing residents or their representatives to gather necessary information for care planning.

The Registered Nurse will identify resident needs and contribute to discharge planning, maintaining engagement throughout the resident's stay. They will collaborate with residents, their families, and the interdisciplinary care team to develop and implement individualized care plans, documenting goals and strategies effectively.

Ongoing evaluation of the Plan of Care is essential, with the RN responsible for making adjustments as necessary. The RN will solicit feedback from nursing colleagues, residents, and families to ensure that care needs are met adequately.

In this role, the Registered Nurse will deliver optimal resident care by applying current nursing practices within the RN scope of practice, adhering to facility policies and procedures, and utilizing sound nursing judgment. Accurate documentation of all medical records and timely responses to resident needs are crucial components of this position.

The Registered Nurse is expected to supervise CNAs and may oversee other nursing staff, providing guidance and support to ensure quality resident care.

Compassionate care is a fundamental aspect of this role, requiring the establishment of positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues and direct reports.

This position is physically demanding and requires:

  • Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and lifting.
  • The ability to work efficiently throughout the entire shift.
  • Lifting or moving objects and patients weighing up to 40 pounds regularly, with the potential to reposition and transfer patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform nursing tasks.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Capability to discern various sensory stimuli.
  • Composure in emergency situations and while managing multiple responsibilities.

This role may involve long hours and frequent weekend shifts, as it is situated within a healthcare facility that operates 24/7, year-round. Flexibility for rotating shifts and holiday work is required.
