The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is tasked with executing a range of general maintenance tasks and repairs across the property. This role requires practical skills and knowledge in various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, masonry, and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks utilizing standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with facilities maintenance and carpentry.
  • Engage in tasks across related maintenance disciplines such as HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Follow safety protocols and precautions pertinent to facilities maintenance and carpentry work.
  • Participate in an on-call emergency schedule for after-hours coverage.
  • Install new equipment, appliances, and fixtures; modify existing systems as needed.
  • Conduct repairs on appliances, heating systems, and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC and boiler systems.
  • Execute carpentry work related to the renovation and upkeep of buildings and other structures.
  • Carry out plumbing tasks, including clearing stoppages and replacing fittings.
  • Interact with residents in a professional and courteous manner, addressing inquiries and concerns effectively.
  • Inspect units to assess damages and identify specific maintenance needs.
  • Assist with custodial duties in common areas and residential units as necessary.
  • Participate in grounds maintenance when required.
  • Report any health, fire, or safety concerns observed within the units.
  • Maintain organized and safe work areas and vehicles.
  • Engage in work-safety programs and adhere to all safety guidelines.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Prior experience in maintenance or a related field is required.
  • Skills in one or more trades such as carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or welding are preferred.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Capability to work independently and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving items of varying weights.
  • Must be able to navigate various environments, including climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in various locations managed by Aurora Military Housing.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions for extended periods is expected.
