Corewell Health is seeking a highly skilled Pathology Assistant to join our Anatomic Pathology team. As a key member of our team, you will assist in the preparation and performance of human surgical tissue examinations, including gross dissection and description of surgical specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in Gross Dissection and Description: Assist in the preparation and performance of human surgical tissue examinations, including gross dissection and description of surgical specimens.
- Prepare Photographic Record: Prepare photographic record of lesions or specimens for documentation, conferences, and/or publications as directed by the pathologist.
- Establish and Update Grossing Manual: Establish and update surgical pathology grossing manual as required by CAP and other regulatory agencies.
- Assist in Autopsy and Frozen Section Examinations: Assist pathologist in performing frozen section examinations and participate in autopsy, including external exam, in-situ organ inspection, evisceration, and dissection.
- Operate Voice Recognition System: Successfully operate Voice Recognition System used for dictation of gross description surgical specimens.
- Participate in Quality Improvement and Training: Participate in Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department. Participate in training new hires and assist lab assistants, fellows, residents, and other personnel as assigned.
- Education and Training: Bachelor's of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related science discipline.
- Certification and Licensure: ASCP Certification - Pathologist Assistant (PA) at the time of employment, or certification eligible upon hiring - must pass exam within 1 year.
- Other Qualifications: Constantly performing tasks that require eye-hand coordination, such as grossing of specimens, and constantly performing tasks that require arm-hand steadiness, such as cutting tissues.
